Second Step: Afterschool Secret
Mai runs afoul of the self-appointed disciplinarian of the school, Haruka, who demands a lot of answers about the damage to the school grounds from her arrival, and...well...pretty much is very demanding in general. She then settles into the school routine, and learns that Natsuki, the girl who attacked them on the boat, attends Fuuka-gakuen as well. Meanwhile, Mikoto wakes up and goes on a rampage, which leads to Mai meeting--though she's not aware of it yet--the director of Fuuka-gakuen and her attendant. Later, Mai feeds Mikoto, then goes off looking for her when she disappears again, and runs into Natsuki and Nagi, subsequently learning about HiME (Highly-advanced Materialising Equipment) and Orphans, the random wandering monsters that infest Fuuka--one of which is following Takumi around. Oh dear. As Mai and Natsuki find him, he's collapsed and is being attacked by an Orphan. And determined to protect her little brother, Mai begins to Awaken...
WAY the fuck too many characters get introduced in this episode. @_@ Haruka is a very uptight and self-important little bitch. She needs to get drilled by about four guys at once. Mikoto is fun and amusing. Mai is still Mai. Everyone else is whoever the hell they are. Important stuff starts, and the episode ends at a nasty cliffhanger--but in a good way.
